About Propel® Orthodontics

Mar Orthodontics is pleased to announce that we now offer Propel®, an innovative and advanced orthodontic technology that works with your braces or aligners (e.g. Invisalign) to fast track your orthodontic treatment.

The Propel® device is a patented, FDA-registered medical device. This exciting technology has proven to shorten orthodontic treatment time. While each patient’s treatment time will vary due to the complexity of their orthodontic issues, many Propel® patients can have their orthodontic treatment lessened by several months.

How Propel® Works

Propel® technology is used in conjunction with your braces or aligners (it works with any type of braces). To benefit from Propel® you must first have your braces or aligners in place.

Propel® stimulates the bone surrounding your teeth, which helps teeth move faster and more predictably into their ideal position.

More specifically, this technology is used to create micro-osteoperforations in areas requiring a large amount of movement. These perforations create a localized inflammatory response. Your body will increase blood flow and cytokines (protein messenger cells) to the area, which results in increased bone remodelling activity, resulting in accelerated tooth movement.

This procedure can be performed at your regularly scheduled appointments as it takes minimal time. A topical anaesthetic is used. It does not require any dietary or activity restrictions, and is ideally performed at the beginning of your orthodontic treatment. Following the procedure you can carry on with your normal day to day activities. Typically one to two Propel treatments are required, but in some cases multiple treatments may be necessary.
